RAC EQUIPS EVERY PATROL VAN WITH EZ SPARE

In 2014, RAC became the first motoring organisation to equip every patrol van with the EZ Spare multi-fit wheel. The aim was simple: get drivers moving again without waiting for a flatbed recovery vehicle.
At the time, RAC research showed that more motorists were travelling without a usable spare wheel. More than 25% had not replaced their spare after a puncture, while 18% carried only a repair kit. For fleet operators, punctures without a spare could mean an additional recovery vehicle, more downtime and a longer roadside response.
WHY RAC NEEDED IT
For RAC patrol technicians, the EZ Spare provided a practical way to deal with punctures when no usable spare was available. The multi-fit wheel could be temporarily fitted at the roadside, allowing the vehicle to be driven to the nearest tyre specialist or dealer instead of requiring a separate flatbed vehicle.
One large fleet operator alone recorded almost 500 puncture callouts in a single month where no spare wheel was available.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Frank Flynn, Information Manager at RAC, said at the time:
“The multi-fit wheel provides a quick fix — it can be temporarily fitted, and the vehicle recovered immediately to the nearest tyre specialist or dealer.”
For fleet operators, the benefit was clear: fewer flatbed callouts, faster roadside support and less vehicle downtime.
WHERE IT STANDS TODAY
What started with RAC in 2014 has become a proven universal spare wheel solution. EZ Universal Spare covers up to 95% of vehicles on the road today and is road legal and TÜV approved.
The principle remains the same: get the driver moving again, with minimal disruption.
